Good Morning,
My name is Angela Werstine, I am a local self-taught artist, and for almost a decade now I have been a professional artist in my region. A few years ago I donated an 8 ft. by four ft. original piece titled “Immaculate” to St. Mary’s Hospital that now hangs in the main foyer. I have held over a hundred well received art exhibits, been nominated twice for the Visual Arts Excellence Award, Received two grants from the Ontario Arts Council, taken part in many festivals, exhibited for beautiful museums and galleries, churches and bars, I have been in many publications, radio spots and live interviews in the community for my work. Over the past little while I have taken a step back from the “Art” spotlight to work on new projects and come up with a game plan for my work. I have been keeping this major project a secret for many months now, I didn’t want to distract myself from my goal and dream, and I didn’t want to share until it was ready. It was about 7 years ago when I mentioned to Adam (my husband) how cool it would be to have all of my work in a book, like other artists. I wanted to be able to walk into a bookstore and see my art in an actual book in the artist section. I never pursued this dream until now. I didn’t think a boring coffee table book would be enough. One day a few long months ago, it hit me… I was going to turn my existing work into an adult colouring book. Since that moment I have been furiously drawing every day. I now have over 800 pieces completed that I have turned into 9 Adult colouring books, the first of which I have just self published. They all are varying in different subject matters, but still having the foundation on my own unique style. Adam and I have ventured out to bookstores to see what other artists are doing and why the world is freaking out for colouring. What we noticed was that almost all of the books out there today all pretty much look the same, Flora and Fauna, landscapes, cityscapes and such. What makes me stand out from the rest is the fact that I draw the human form in a simplistic yet complicated manner. Over the past ten years I have spent thousands of hours colouring in my work, it has relaxed me in an unimaginable way. It has quieted my brain, slowed my thoughts and relieved a lot of stress. After completing each piece I would look at it and think, holy crap I did that. I brought them to life. Now, the world has their chance to do the same. I have taken my most popular and favorite pieces that I have ever done and transformed them into hand drawn completely unique pieces for the world to bring to life with colour. This project has been the greatest experience I have ever had in regards to my art. I love drawing, I love creating, and I want to share it with all of you! I have no words to actually describe to you what doing this has meant to me. How important of a project this has become. My first proof came in the mail the a few weeks ago and to hold a physical book in my hand with my name on it was a dream come true. The book now has sold about a hundred copies in just two weeks! The book can be found at the Button Factory in Waterloo, Moksha Yoga, Winterberry (Elmira), Blue Bamboo, and lots of homes in Ontario. The book is also being sold on Amazon worldwide. Simply Complicated Vol. 1 centers around beautiful Yoga poses as well as a new collection I have done that focuses on intricate Zentangels. Each piece still using my unique style and focusing on the human form. This is a book you are going to want, for yourself, your neighbor, your mother, her friend and anyone else that loves to colour. I now welcome the world to Angela Werstine’s SIMPLY COMPLICATED! I am also planning on turning a few of my pieces into huge colouring posters and holding a weekly colouring night event in the area! A chance for adults to come out to a local, pub or bar, have a few drinks and unwind with some colouring. Its a wonderful chance to network and meet new people. It is a huge event in Toronto, but no one has brought it here yet, until now! I want to be the first to bring live colouring nights to Waterloo region. I think it would be a really fun and entertaining experience. I have spoken to a few venues around town and think I have found the perfect fit! I would also like to thank my community for your support over the past ten years, for believing in me and for watching my art grow with every piece I have done. I also want to thank Adam, without who this would not have been possible. Thank you baby, for your never ending support, encouragement and belief that I can and should always follow my dreams! I want to thank you so much for your time and consideration! Have a wonderful day!!! Sincerely, Angela Werstine 519-505-2853 [email protected] www.angelawerstine.weebly.com
